EVANSVILLE, Ind. - University of Southern Indiana Volleyball senior libero earned her first career GLVC Defensive Player of the Week award following an undefeated weekend for the Eagles, beating division foes UIS and top-ranked Lewis.

Gubera, a Thorntown, Indiana native, played a crucial role defensively in the Screaming Eagles' undefeated weekend, including laying out for 50 digs in the nine sets. In the first match against the Prairie Stars, the senior recorded 12 digs and was one of four USI players to post double-digit digs in the four-set contest. The final regular season match versus the No.1 Flyers had Gubera flying around the defensive side of the ball to mark a career-high of 38 digs for the libero.Her previous career-high for digs was 25 against Missouri S&T on March 6, 2021. Gubera led the defensive efforts against UIS and Lewis, posting 6.25 digs per set in the two wins, creating havoc for the opposing attacks. The senior libero led the USI defense to a team season-high mark of 100 digs in the match versus the Flyers while holding opposing offenses to attack percentages of .143 (UIS) and .133 (Lewis).

This was Gubera's first career GLVC Player of the Week honor and the first defensive player of the week for the Eagles since Audrey Crowder won the award in November 2019.

THIS SEASON:
Callie Gubera has primarily held the libero role for the Eagles and Coach Raff, averaging 3.75 digs per set and collecting 225 total.

The Screaming Eagles will head to East Peoria for the 2020-21 GLVC Volleyball Championship as the 3rd seed. The conference volleyball tournament will take place over April 16-18.

USI Volleyball will head to East Peoria for the GLVC Volleyball tournament, beginning on April 16 at the EastSide Centre. As announced by the GLVC, fans will be allowed at the conference volleyball tournament but attendance will be limited to 200 per match. USI will kick off the tournament for the GLVC, playing the the first match of the weekend against the seventh-seeded Lindenwood Lions on Friday, April 16 at 10:30 A.M. (central).
