Tracy Archuleta

Tracy Archuleta has led the Screaming Eagles for 17 years, including the programs transition to NCAA Division I and to two NCAA Division II national championships during his tenure. He also has been recognized as the Division II ABCA National Coach of the Year twice (2010, 2014); the ABCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year five times (2007, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018) and the GLVC Coach of the Year twice (2011, 2014) since taking over the program in 2007. He also is the winningest coach in the history of the program with 544 victories in 17 years.

Archuleta guided the Eagles in the Ohio Valley Conference and Division I during this 17th year, including an appearance in the OVC Championship. USI was 17-38 during the inaugural Division I, placing eighth in the OVC with an 8-15 mark.

The 2022 season started with a bang, producing a 6-1 record, but injuries slowed the Eagles throughout the season. USI would go on to produce a 21-24 overall record, 10-14 in the GLVC.

USI returned to action in 2021 after the COVID-19 early termination of the 2020 season to post its 14th-straight winning season with a 24-20 overall record, 18-14 in the GLVC. The Eagles also advanced to the GLVC Tournament for the seventh-straight season, finishing in fourth place in the league.

In 2019, the Eagles fell short of a fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA II Tournament despite rallying in the last two weeks of the season with eight wins in 11 games to end the regular season and the GLVC Tournament. USI completed the year 30-21 overall and 21-12 in the GLVC.

Archuleta and the Eagles recorded their fifth NCAA II Midwest Regional title and appeared in the NCAA II Baseball Championship in 2018. The Eagles rebounded from a slow start to complete a 36-23 campaign and a 15-9 mark in the GLVC.

The 2017 season saw Archuleta reach another milestone, surpassing the 400-win mark at USI, while leading the Eagles to a seventh GLVC division title, fourth in the East Division. The Eagles also advanced to the GLVC and NCAA II Tournaments.

The 16-year head coach with USI and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside earned his 500th career win in 2016 while leading the Eagles to their fourth NCAA II Midwest Regional title and a fifth-place finish in the NCAA II Baseball Championship. The Eagles were 38-21 overall and captured the GLVC East Division title on the final weekend of the regular season with a 20-8 conference mark. USI also concluded the 2016 campaign ranked 12th nationally.

In 2015, Archuleta and USI got off to a slow start after battling Mother Nature and a three-week layoff to start the campaign. The Eagles rebounded to win 22 of their last 31 games to finish the year 28-21, 21-15 in the GLVC, ending the year in the conference tournament.

Archuleta's Eagles soared in 2014, winning the NCAA II national championship, the NCAA Midwest Regional crown and the the GLVC East Division title. USI surpassed the 40-win plateau for the third time during his tenure, while producing the eighth-straight winning season during the run to the national championship. The 2014 Eagles also had 10 All-Conference honorees and eight region award winners.

USI earned its seventh-straight winning campaign in 2013 with a 30-18 overall mark under Archuleta. He also crossed the 400-career win plateau during the 2013 season. The 2012 season ended with Archuleta leading the Eagles to their sixth straight winning season with a 26-24 mark.

In 2011, Archuleta directed USI to the program's fourth-straight GLVC regular season title. The Eagles also appeared in the GLVC Tournament for the fifth-straight year and into the NCAA II Tournament for the fourth time in five years under his leadership.

The Eagles' first-ever national championship came under Archuleta's leadership in 2010. USI broke 13 team records during the championship run, including wins in a season (52), winning percentage (.788, 52-14), and winning streak (15). The Eagles also won their third-straight GLVC West Division title and its first GLVC Tournament crown since 1993.

The 2010 Eagles also featured two All-Americans, three All-Region performers, and seven All-GLVC players. Six Eagles also earned Academic All-GLVC honors.

In addition to being the 2010 ABCA NCAA II Coach of the Year, Archuleta was named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year by the ABCA and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The third season was nearly as exciting as his first with the Eagles coming two wins away from advancing to a second NCAA II Baseball Championship appearance. USI won the GLVC West for a second straight-year before finishing third in the GLVC Tournament and the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. The Eagles were 39-19 overall; fourth best win total in the history of the program.

In the second season, Archuleta and the Eagles won their first GLVC West Division and the first conference regular season title in 15 years. USI finished the year with 36 victories during the regular schedule, tying for fifth all-time in the history of the program. The Eagles also were ranked as high as sixth nationally in 2008.

Archuleta pulled the Eagles onto the national stage during an exciting first season in 2007. The Eagles made their first appearance in the final four during the NCAA Division II Baseball National Finals and won their first ever NCAA Division II Midwest Regional championship. USI also set a school record at that time by posting 43 victories -- 25 wins better than the year before.

The Eagles and Archuleta finished their first season together ranked fourth nationally; had a 43-23 overall record; and 24-15 in the GLVC. USI placed second in the GLVC regular season and fourth in the conference tournament.

UW-Parkside also advanced to the NCAA II North Central Regional title game in 2005 and was 148-124 (.544) during Archuleta's tenure.

After setting the foundation during his first two years, Archuleta directed the UW-Parkside Rangers into the national spotlight with a 41-18 season in 2004, finishing on top of the GLVC standings and earning the school's first-ever NCAA II Tournament bid. Between 2002 and 2004, UW-Parkside went from 13 wins to 41 wins.

Archuleta's Rangers continued their march in 2005, this time with a 45-18 record, picking up the school's first GLVC baseball championship along the way. Again, the club made the NCAA II Tournament, reaching the regional championship game. The 2005 team broke the school record for wins in a season, set by the 2004 squad. In each of those two seasons, the Rangers finished among the top 25 teams in the nation.
