CJ Sereno was promoted to head coach of the Sacred Heart University cheerleading team in 2016, after serving as assistant coach for the prior year. Also the athletics department's events coordinator, she was elevated to a full-time head coaching position in 2021.
Sereno, Sacred Heart alumna, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2015. She went on to earn a master of science degree from SHU in 2016.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart competitive cheerleading for three years, serving as team captain during her senior year. She has competed at both National Cheerleading Association (NCA) and Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) Nationals. Sereno contributed to the Pioneers' sixth-place finish at the 2015 UCA Nationals.
As head coach of the Pioneers, Sereno led the Pioneers to a first-place finish at the 2020 UCA Nationals. Sacred Heart went on to add National Championships during the 2021, 2022 and 2023 competitions.
She was previously employed at the Westport Police Department in Westport, Conn. as a clerical assistant. She previously worked at Grace Farms Foundation in New Canaan, Conn. where she worked to eradicate human trafficking.
