MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2022 Bib Gourmand Selection

9 New Bib Gourmand Distinctions Including 3 Hawker Centre Stalls and 1 Street Food Establishment in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2022, Making a Total of 67 Bib Gourmand Locations in Singapore

Michelin is pleased to announce the 2022 edition of the Bib Gourmand selection for the MICHELIN Guide Singapore. This year’s selection comprises 67 Bib Gourmand locations including restaurants, hawker centre stalls, and street food establishments. Of these, 9 are newly recognised with a Bib Gourmand recommendation in the sixth edition of the guide in Singapore. The Bib Gourmand category was created in 1997 to recognise establishments that offer diners a value-for-money gourmet experience, in Singapore, this is benchmarked at a maximum of SG$45 for a three-course meal.

This year, 5 new Bib Gourmands comprise restaurants, while 3 are hawker centre stalls, and 1 is a street food establishment.

Among the new restaurants, Cumi Bali serves authentic Indonesian cooking with homemade sauces made with a myriad of natural spices. Another brainchild of the chef-owner behind Cloudstreet and Kotuwa, Fool is a lively wine bar with a fascinating selection of snacks and small plates, showcasing precise execution and plating. One Prawn & Co in MacPherson Road is the go-to place for anyone fancying a nice bowl of Prawn Noodles. The soup is loaded with flavours, especially from the tomalley of countless prawn heads. Previously known as Man-man, Unagi Tei ships live eels from Japan that are then char-grilled to perfection; the grilled nodoguro sea perch introduced in the new menu is equally appealing. Lastly, in the restaurant category, Un-Yang-Kor-Dai receives a promotion to a Bib Gourmand this year. Specialising in Isan cuisine hailing from northeastern Thailand, renowned items include the addictive Leng Zaab and the PenLaos Signature Chicken.

For the hawker centre stalls, Hai Nan Xing Zhou Beef Noodle located at the Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre in Toa Payoh offers blanched rice noodles tossed in a thick gravy, or soup noodles in a deeply flavourful ox bone broth. Located in Berseh Food Centre, Kelantan Kway Chap · Pig Organ Soup has captured the hearts of many with its pork cuts and offal pairing with kway chap ribbon noodles. The cuts are cooked in a soy-based marinade with spices, boasting rich and deep flavours. Lastly, also located at Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre, Lixin Teochew Fishball Noodles is well-known for handmade fishballs, which are springy in texture and full of umami. These fishballs in soup work perfectly with blanched noodles tossed in chilli sauce with crispy cracklings.

Street food stall Sing Lung HK Cheong Fun in Beach Road is also recognised with a Bib Gourmand recommendation. The chef here has years of experience in Cantonese cooking, and his velvety Hong Kong-style rice noodle rolls are made to order.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, border restrictions and social distancing have been gradually lifted in Singapore since the beginning of the year. Singapore is under a healthy recovery in its economic activities and daily life. The food and beverage industry showed its resilience with several establishments continuing to expand. Coupled with the multicultural background of Singapore and the diversity of cuisines, this has enriched the Lion City’s unique gastronomic landscape.

“With this selection of newly awarded Bib Gourmand locations, we celebrate the dynamism of the local food industry, which has neither lost at all its passion, nor its quality of offerings. Hawker centre stalls and street food are fully part of the very unique Singaporean culture, and our inspectors were amazed to deep dive into these authentic dishes that are full of flavour, culinary experiences, and led by talented professionals who enhance common ingredients,” says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide. “What a pleasure it is for us to highlight the wonderful diversity of the Singaporean culinary scene, from classic restaurants to hawkers and street food establishments. We’re sure that not only local foodies, but also international travelers will find their perfect gem.”
