"Immersive Acoustics: Immersive Acoustics: Active Acoustics Enabled Immersive Experiences"
Nowadays, modern architecture for events, art, concerts, and even the workplace must meet new and rapidly changing requirements. The state-of-the-art creation of variable acoustics that meet these demands is called active acoustics. This digital and electro-acoustic tool is capable of altering every important acoustic parameter, from early reflections to diffuse reverberation. Through this tool, a conference room can, for example, be turned into a concert hall at the push of a button.
Meanwhile, for a few years now, the trend toward immersive experiences has been impossible to ignore. On the audio end, 3D audio technology is the basis for immersive audio, which is largely a marketing term. Audio objects are localized in 3D space using a surrounding set of loudspeakers to create a sense of immersion. It is important to mention that there are a few different approaches—namely wave-field synthesis, higher-order ambisonics, and vector-base amplitude panning—each with its own set of pros and cons.
Active acoustics and 3D audio each deliver significant added value when applied correctly. However, using both in parallel takes acoustics and immersive experiences to unprecedented heights.
This presentation describes the basic workings of active acoustics and 3D audio and delves into their existing applications. We will also discuss why high-quality loudspeakers are central to the successful application of immersive acoustics.

"Simulating Design Aspects of Immersive Sound Systems with EASE 5 First Edition"
Spatial audio and room acoustic enhancement systems aim to provide the spectator with a more enveloping listening experience compared to conventional sound reinforcement installations. They typically also enable a broader range of applications for the venue. The presentation will discuss a number of relevant design aspects in these regards, with a focus on the modeling perspective. Real-world projects are used to highlight the importance of sound system coverage, distribution and directivity of loudspeakers as well as the supporting room acoustics. The new version EASE 5-FE is employed as a state-of-the-art simulation tool.
