Why this petition matters

Started by Karabo Mbatha

Over the past 3-4 years, we’ve seen an increase in the awareness of women and children going missing, being brutally murdered, sexually violated and many other inhumane actions & this happens predominantly in the hands of our male counterparts. women and children in South Africa live in constant fear, not knowing if they are #AmINext to this gruesome environment that we’re being accustomed to. femicide in South Africa is real and it’s happening everyday. everyday women go missing for years like the likes of Karabo Ncube and baby Amahle. we need the South African government, specifically the minister of police, Bheki Cele, to prioritize GBV and be as unwavering on his hatred of it, the same way he explicitly made South Africans aware of how he hates substances (alcohol, cigarettes). we need him to take a stand as our leader and as a South African man and show us that he is capable of using the same enforcements he used for the South African lockdown to protect our women and children. we also need the SAPS to take GBV-related cases more seriously and not try to make victims feel more vulnerable and reluctant to get the justice they deserve. one of the GBV crimes committed against women is rape and South Africa has the highest number of only reported cases in the world which is truly appalling. Minister Cele needs to step up his game and if he fails to do his duties, i implore that he be replaced with a more suitable candidate who will deal with GBV matters and all other issues in South Africa equally, the way Minister Cele is failing to do.

May women be taken seriously and protected the way they should be and by the very people we are supposed to be protected by.
