Abolish the “Don’t Say Gay” FL Bill
Abolish the “Don’t Say Gay” FL Bill
Why this petition matters
The new “Don’t say Gay” bill passed in Florida prohibits any staff in a school to discuss LGBTQ+ issues in the classroom. This means no discussion of homophobia, no pride flags or safe place stickers, no education of gay history or issues, homophobia going without punishment, no safe haven for LGBTQ youth, and many more issues. Not only this, but it allows teachers to out students in an unsafe environment with no consequences.
The truth is that there is no real issue with LGBTQ. It should not be a discussion to have nor be something concealed. It is not a mature topic, it needs to be normalized and that includes teaching children about queer folk. Right now we are treating it as something that needs to be talked about like sex, a private conversation with parents. That is *NOT* what being queer is. Being queer is normal, natural, and completely harmless. It is NOT inappropriate and it is NOT a conversation to have telling children about people attracted to the same sex.
We as a society are moving backwards and making it dangerous for Queer youth, causing unnecessary trauma and problems. THIS IS THE ISSUE. THESE LAWS ARE THE ISSUE. THE DENORMALIZATION OF GAY PEOPLE IS THE ISSUE. We are being directly harmed by every place of authority and this is a prime example of it. If you have any human decency and sympathy for queer children, sign this petition. Share it. Get the word out there. We as a community will NOT let the Florida government get away with this.
By getting 766,200 signatures on this petition, we will get rid of the bill.
