In October of 2021, Governor Greg Abbott passed a bill banning trans students from playing on public school teams that fit with their gender identities. The bill is said to go into affect this year, in 2022. Today is February 23rd, 2022, and i’ve just been informed an hour ago that the state of Texas and Greg Abbott want gender affirming care for trans youth to be seen as ‘child abuse.’ I have trans friends, and i know several other people that are trans. America wants to talk about how much progress we’ve made in the last 50 years with the LGBTQ+ community, POCs, and minorities in general, but if we’ve made so much progress, how do you explain all of the anti-gay /anti-transgender bills being passed and the violence towards people of color across the country, not just in Texas. I live here. I hate it, but i live here. I’m pansexual and non-binary and i’m terrified to think about what happens after this. Are they going to take gay marriage away? Are we going to be treated as a disease more than we already are? Are we going to let our states, or America in general, take SIMPLE RIGHTS from us? Our lives are just as valid as your lives, no matter who we love, what we identify as, what we look like. We have 9 months until the next state election. Greg Abbott won’t be able to run this term, but we need these bills to be overturned so we can insure the rights of people in the future. The next governor could pick up right where Greg left off. Do not let that happen.
