Amazonia is in the midst of a tipping point crisis as deforestation and high degradation combined have already reached 26% of the region. The tipping point must be understood as the beginning of a metastasis or the irreversible destruction of the ecosystem. As a result, savannization is already taking place in both countries.
A Roadmap to Implement Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework
The inclusion of Indigenous Territories in Target 3 of the new Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework represents a historic milestone, as it is the first time that the role of Indigenous peoples and their knowledge and governance systems in maintaining balance has been recognized in the key priority areas of human, territorial, and planetary health.
