I had the opportunity to work with several other contractors during my college internships, and I value each one of those experiences. The last internship I did was with Rosendin, and I immediately knew that this was going to be where I was going to spend my career. The way Rosendin conducts business and invests in its employees is what sets us apart from other contractors. There are a certain drive and motivation at Rosendin that can be contagious where people are motivated to succeed and constantly improve. At my age, that is the most important thing to me – being constantly motivated and moving forward.

The thing I absolutely love about Rosendin is that they care about their people. This was shown to me during my first summer internship and is still very evident as I go through my second-year internship. This experience with Rosendin has been amazing because it immediately immersed me in the electrical construction industry. It has been a pleasure to work alongside the team at Kaiser Permanente in Woodbridge, VA as they have provided me with knowledge that I will carry with me as I progress with this amazing company. I am truly grateful that I could have this experience and I am excited to continue my journey with Rosendin Electric.

Take the chance. Do not be afraid. Do not let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. Don’t let biases take you away from your dream (of a being a woman in construction).”

I was looking for a career change, and with no knowledge about the Construction Industry and Project Management, joining the Rosendin 2022 Summer Internship Program was a blessing in disguise. Throughout my internship, there was never a moment where I wasn’t learning. I was challenged, kept curious, and eager to learn more. When offered to come on full-time, there was no hesitation in accepting the offer. New to the industry, I was faced with moments of imposter syndrome. However, it’s a different motivation and drive when your mentor, team, and company believe in you and invest in your growth. At Rosendin, the opportunities to grow your career are abundant. You won’t be pigeonholed to just one role and department. If you want to venture into another department and are willing to learn and have a strong work ethic – the possibilities are endless. Rosendin is like a treasure chest! You have the key to unlock all the endless gems that Rosendin has to offer.

“I try not to let anything about who I am be a challenge or a disadvantage. As a woman in this industry, when I go to work each day everyone is on the same playing field, regardless of gender.”

Jammie B.
Project Manager
California

At Rosendin, I am able to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Employees on both the field and office side have helped me learn so much about electrical construction. The time people have taken out of their schedules to help me be successful has made me feel valued as both an employee and as an individual. As employee-owners, the people take more ownership of their careers and the success of the organization. There is a sense of comradery that we are all in this together. Success is not just about the individual, it is about the success of all employees as well as the organization.

Starting in high school I was working IT Helpdesk and in college, I worked both in IT as well as construction. After graduating I took a job as a Project Engineer for a large General Contractor. In my time working there they implemented a new ERP system and I joined that team combining my knowledge of IT and Construction. I’ve stayed in IT ever since and in 2019 became Rosendin’s CIO.

I met many really cool people from all over the US during intern week that I still like to keep in touch with today. Working as an intern at the San Francisco airport, I learned an enormous amount about project management and the importance of communication with your team, other contractors and clients. I was able to practice what I learned in my school projects at San Jose State by setting goals, deadlines and communicating effectively to avoid difficulties throughout the year. Once I graduated, I was pleased to hear from one of my mentors that I had an opportunity to continue working full-time at Rosendin. Currently, I get to work with low-voltage systems at the airport alongside the most knowledgeable, skilled and experienced professionals in the industry. My team has been extremely supportive and helpful in training me and it’s been a pleasure so far working with everyone.

Before I started full-time with Rosendin, I interned for two years. My internship helped me to get hands-on experience with writing RFIs, doing submittals, and reading drawings and documentation that we didn’t necessarily cover in class. I decided to stay with Rosendin because I felt like everyone was really trying to help me do better. I have a mentor, and I have someone that gives me goals and expectations to get to the next step.

Joining the renewables division, first as an intern and now full time, is an invitation to a tight-knit group of professionals with a wealth of experience. My internship was very self-directed, and I had the agency to focus on personal areas of interest. After making the transition to full time, I feel valued as an essential member of the team and have been given the freedom to continue to learn about different scopes of work. The renewables division at Rosendin is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory, and I feel that I can make an impact with the work I do and grow along with the division. An internship at Rosendin is an opportunity like no other.

I still feel like I’m working toward an ultimate goal of making the industry more accepting of and accessible to women and other minorities. Every time a new woman is hired in my office, I get excited to see the scales tip a little more.

“The only person standing in the way of any upward mobility is me, and I intend to not let myself get in the way. The contours of my path are not as defined as they would be in a first career, so I’m not going to be afraid if the path takes a slight detour along the way. I’ve met some wonderful people in this new career and learned some new things.”

Kara B.

“My time in the Navy Seabees helped me succeed as a project manager because I learned to bring the team spirit to all that I do. Rosendin has supported me as a veteran and supports veterans in our company as a whole. They have provided sponsorships and donations to the Seabees and CEC historical societies, and I have been proud to represent my company at the San Diego Seabees Awards Banquet. Rosendin provides all the support one could need to succeed.”

“Being a veteran has given me a sense of accomplishment and a sense of direction in life. Many veterans are trying to figure out where to go next, and a place like Rosendin can help them a lot in finding a role in this industry. Rosendin has always been very appreciative of my service and the service of all veterans – it really helps to make you feel at home”

“My military experience taught me to adapt and overcome, whether its the project location, weather, or even different personalities. I always try to make the best of any situation. Working for Rosendin has been a great experience. The company’s Safety Program is the best in the industry and I know I will be asked to work in an unsafe condition.”

The military gave me great respect for myself and my peers. It showed me how to be responsible for what I do and how to conduct myself through life experiences. I learned how to be disciplined, how to conduct myself and to train with my team. It was a great life experience and would do it all over again. I’m very proud to have served.

“Being in the Navy was an incredible experience that took me on amazing adventures. The teamwork and work ethic I gained through that experience has helped me succeed and be a long term employee at REI.”

“My time in the Navy taught me the importance of respect for others, teamwork, empowerment and most importantly the trust in others. I also learned from my leaders in the Navy the importance and understanding of empowerment. Whether it is as a Foreman out in the field or a Project Manager in the office, a good leader empowers and challenges their team to take on the tasks they have been trained to do so that they can learn from their experiences so that they feel as though they are part of the success and/or failure of an operation.”

“The military has helped me realize the huge effect good leaders can have on their teams.”

Luke F.

“While you’re at work the goal has to be same amongst everybody so you can achieve the result at your wanting which is success. Same way as the military, we were people from all different demographics and all around the country coming together for the same purpose of serving your country and defending the nation at a moment’s notice, if we need to. Everyone had a set task and they needed to perform their tasks and obligations in a timely manner efficiently and with as little remediation or repair work as possible. It’s no different than putting together a solar farm or working at a power plant, data center, or even doing service work.”

Rob I.
General Foreman

“My experience with the military – what they always teach you to be is responsible and to be dependable. When they need you to do something we got to get it done. Sometime there were a lot of up and downs but you got to get the project done, you have to get the mission done.”
