The State of Voting Rights In America Reports

In 2021, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights commissioned reports on the state of voting rights in 13 states across the country. These reports were written by voting rights experts at civil rights organizations around the country with the help of pro bono law firms and local community-based organizations working with communities of color. They document ongoing and recent patterns of racial discrimination at the ballot box against Black, Brown, Asian and Native voters. The reports were submitted to the official congressional record as part of the legislative process to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act on August 13, 2021.

Spread the word

Did you know that millions of Americans can’t access the democratic process because of solvable problems in how elections are run? These problems aren’t felt equally across communities – voters of color are 6x more likely than White voters to wait longer than an hour to vote, even in the same town. Spread the word to help defeat barriers to the ballot box.
