Forest Landowner Extravaganza
You are one of over 500,000 family forest owners in Virginia. Whether you own 5 acres or 5,000 acres, the decisions you make to keep your forest healthy and productive have a big impact on the wellbeing of the commonwealth.
Your healthy forest provides clean water and air, stores carbon, protects soils, houses wildlife, showcases scenic vistas, and provides a source of sustainable wood products.
Many of you have attended forest landowner education events.
Many of you have hosted educational programs.
All of you love your land.
To thank you, the Virginia Forest Landowner Education Program, the Virginia Tech Department of Forest Resources & Environmental Conservation, and the Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources & Environment invite you to join us in the first ever Forest Landowner Extravaganza!
A catered lunch will be provided by Virginia Tech's Department of Forest Resources & Environmental Conservation.
Lunchtime speakers will include:
- Corey Connors, Executive Director of the Virginia Forestry Association
- Paul Winistorfer, Dean of the College of Natural Resources & Environment
- Jennifer Gagnon, Coordinator of the Virginia Forest Landowner Education Program
You'll also have the chance to win some fabulous door prizes, including:

- A one-year membership to the Virginia Forestry Association
- A white oak seedling from Virginia Tech's Stadium Woods
Lunch will be followed by 5 educational opportunities. Choose from:
Join John Peterson and John Seiler for a walking tour of Pandapas Pond. Peterson will teach you how to identify common tree species found around the pond. Seiler will share the history of the pond, discuss changes occurring in the Table Mountain pine communities, and explain ecological process driving ecosystem changes including succession, the effects of aspect, and more. Participants will receive a free copy of the book Common Native Trees of Virginia.

Join John Fike, from the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences, for a walking tour of the beautiful Catawba Sustainability Center property. John will discuss the varied options for implementing agroforestry practices on your land.

Join Extension Specialist Brian Bond for a tour of the Brooks Forest Products Lab to learn about the latest research on cross-laminated timber, pallets, and more! Participants will drive themselves to the Brooks Center.
